10 killed in Bhaluka truck plunge

Staff Correspondent, Mymensingh: At least 10 people have been killed in a truck plunge incident in the district’s Bhaluka upazila.

The incident happened around 3.30am on Friday on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Meherabari area of Bhaluka.


Eight of the deceased have been identified, of which five are a family at Tarakando in Mymensingh.  The deceased are Azizul Islam (35), Rezia Akhter (30), Mehadi Hasan (11), Mijan (8), Sejar (4), Josna Begum (55), Sirajul Islam (18) and Shajahan Hossain (40).

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhaluka Police Station Mamunur Rashid said a cement-laden truck plunged into a ditch while heading towards Jamalpur, leaving nine people dead on the spot and five  others injured. One of the injured died while they were being taken to hospital.

On information, a firefighting unit rushed in and conducted the rescue operation.
