BNP, AL supporters` clash leaves 15 injured in Barisal

Staff Correspondent, Barisal: At least 15 people were injured in a clash of Bangladesh Nationalist Party men with the supporters of ruling Awamil League in Barisal.

The clash took place between BNP men with activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, Juba League and Sramik League, affiliated wings of AL, at a rally venue of BNP at Sadar Road of the city around 11:30am Thursday.

The political and personal identities of the injured could not be known immediately.

However, BNP leaders claimed that activists of Chhatra League, Juba League and Sramik League launched the attack on them which led the incident of injuries.

Golam Rouf Khan, deputy commissioner of Barisal Metropolitan Police said BNP leaders and activists gathered in front of their party office. At that time, some leaders and activists of Sramik League were at the Sadar Road, near to the BNP party office. Someone inside the BNP men, hurled a bottle aiming the Sramik League men who with Chhatra League and Juba League started to walk towards the BNP men triggering the clash.

Police bring the situation under control at once, the police official added.

Meanwhile, Abul Kalam Shahin, general secretary of Barisal District Unit (South) claimed that Juba League and Chhatra League leaders and activists launched attacks on the BNP men who were preparing for a rally.

On the other hand, BCL district unit general secretary Abdul Razzak said the incident was a drama by the BNP men. They (BNP) produced the clash to blame Chhatra League and Juba League.
