10 essential summer travel tips

DHAKA, July 15: Summer is already in full swing (in some places more than others), and it`s not too late to get away. Whether you`re considering a trip close to home or to somewhere with a near-guarantee of sunshine, we are here to help. Here are ten essential summer travel trips that can make your holydays more enjoyable and safe.

1.    Take The Time To Pack

Too often we pack in a hurry, either the evening or morning before we leave. Smart packing will make for a better trip. Check the weather forecast earlier in the week and see what the lows and highs are looking like.

2.    Downsize

Skin creams, hairsprays, body lotion–all those products take up tons of space. Streamline your routine by packing beauty essentials that pull double-duty.  Multi-tasking products are ideal for weekend getaways. Anti-aging serum, moisturizer and sunscreen are must.

3.    Drink Lots Of Water

Whenever we are traveling we make hydration a top priority. The 8-10 glasses of water rule doesn’t cut it, especially in the summer. Try a minimum of 3-4 liters. Staying hydrated helps prevent jet lag and general fatigue, and also keeps your body functioning properly through unavoidable changes in climate and diet.

4.    Hangover Helper

All that outdoor drinking, while fun, can lead you to overindulge. Hangovers are never fun, but a hangover while you’re traveling is extra unpleasant.

5.    Pack Healthy Snacks

It’s way too easy to eat junk when you travel–all that fast food! Make the smart decision and pack yourself some healthy treats for when you are on-the-go. Watermelon and cucumber are very hydrating and cooling. Oranges are always a good choice because the smell is a proven mood lifter and helps to relieve stress of annoying airplane seatmates or highway traffic. Fruits are also great summer snacks because it’s their peak season.

6.    Keep Your Clothes Clean

After a few days of beach frolicking, your swimsuit and cover-up are bound to smell pretty ripe. Hand-wash your bathing suit. It gets out oils from our bodies and sunscreens, and extends the life of your swimsuits, preventing stretch and keeping color. It will also come in handy if you accidentally spill ketchup on your favorite sundress.

7.    Don’t Get Burned

There’s nothing worse than getting a sunburn on your very first day of vacation. We recommend putting on sunscreen before you even put your bathing suit on, so you can make sure to cover your whole body. Bathing suits move around throughout the day, so putting sunscreen on every inch of your body before you go out in the sun can ensure that you won’t have any mistakes or funkier tan lines than necessary.

8.    Hair Help

While most of us remember to pack the sunscreen, we don’t think about protecting our hair when we’re out by the hotel pool. Skin cancer is very often found on the scalp, and it’s also one of the hardest places to detect signs like moles. You can use hair protectant spray. Then don a floppy hat or fedora–they’re so chic right now–and don’t forget the sunglasses!

9.    Stay Fresh

No one wants to be the smelly chick on the beach. You can try fragrance-free underarm powders. They look like chic little makeup compacts and are so easy to toss in your bag for a day at the beach. Dab some on your underarms and décolleté before you go out at night to prevent wetness. They’re even small enough to pop into your clutch for protection all night.

10.    Relax!

Your body is on vacation and your mind should be too. That means put down the Blackberry, stop texting and leave that inbox alone. You won’t be able to truly relax and unwind if you stay plugged in to work. Tune out at the beach with energizing music. Pack a simple and fun book for the beach.
