14 get life-term for murder in Comilla

Staff Correspondent: A court in Comilla today convicted 14 people and sentenced them to life term imprisonment for killing a youth named Motiur Rahman Kabul, 23.

Judge M Ali Ahmed of Comilla Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-3 passed the order acquitting an accused as allegations brought against him could not be proved.

The convicts are- Ali Ahmed, Abul Bashar, Shafiqur Rahman, Sirajul Islam, Rafiq Mia, Raja Mia, Mohammad Ali, Abdur Razzak, Abdur Rahman, Mohon Mia, Doulat Ahmed, Bahar Mia, Najir Ahmed and Abdul Karim. Among them, Bahar Mia, Najir Ahmed and Abdul Karim were tried in absentia.

The case statement said that a group of miscreants intercepted a bicycle carrying Matiur Rahman Babul, 25, son of Nazimuddin at Lalbagh in Sadar upazila, and stabbed him to death on 21 March 1999 due to previous enmity.

Later, they also gouged out the eyes of Babul and dumped the body there.

Nazimuddin filed a case against 20 people in this connection with Kotwali Police Station. Then, Police submitted chargesheet against 20 people on 11 April 2000.
