16 get Ekushey Padak

Staff Correspondent:  A total of 16 distinguished personalities have been selected for the prestigious Ekushey Padak in recognition of their contributions in respective fields.

Cultural Affairs Ministry announced the names through a press release on Wednesday.

The personalities are Justice Kazi Ebadul Haq,  Dr. Sayed Haider, Dr Jasim Uddin Ahmed and Sayed Golam Kibria (posthumous) in language movement;  Mafidul Haq for contribution in Liberation War; Toab Khan in journalism;  Joity Prokash Dutt, Prof. Dr. Hayat Mahmud and Habibullah Siraji in language and literature;  Begum Jahanara Ahmed in arts (Television and Film); Pandit Amaresh Roy Chowdhury in arts (Classical Music), Begum Shaheen Samad in arts (Music); Amanul Haque in Arts (Dance),  Kazi Anwar Hossain for arts (painting)  and Prof. Dr. ABM Abdullah and Mongsen Ching Monsin in research.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will formally hand over prestigious Ekushey Padak to 16 eminent personalities at a ceremony at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on February 20.

Each recipient will get Tk two lakh, a gold medal weighing 35 grams and a citation.

The Ekushey Padak, a national award, was introduced in memory of the martyrs of the 1952 Language Movement.
