Woman faking PM’s signature lands in jail

Staff Correspondent: A court in Dhaka has sent Hasina Begum to jail after a two-day remand in a case filed for allegedly counterfeiting the signature of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Kamrul Islam passed the order on Thursday while sub-inspector (SI) of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station Abdul Malek, also the investigating officer (IO) of the case, produced the accused before the court, asking it to keep the accused into jail.

The investigating officer said, “The accused has been interrogated after putting her on a two-day remand. During the interrogation, she has provided important information which will be helpful for the investigation. The investigation is underway. The court has been asked to keep the accused into jail until the investigation ends."

The court granted a two-day remand for Hasina Begum on February 13 following a petition, seeking a five-day remand for interrogating her.

Authorities of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University handed over the woman to police for allegedly counterfeiting the signature of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday evening (February 12).

Gopal Ganesh Biswas, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, said on Sunday evening the detained woman placed a recommendation to the authority of the university to admit a girl there forging the signature of the prime minister.

On suspicion, the university authority detained her and handed over to the police.

Hasina Begum has been cheating for long by forging the signatures of the government policy makers including the prime minister, the OC added.

It is learnt that Hasina Begum introducing herself as the chef of Gonobhaban met the vice-chancellor of the university and talked to him over phone.
