285 educational institutions closed in Sirajganj

Sirajganj Correspondent: The overall flood situation in the district has remained unchanged.

About 285 educational institutions have been shut down due to the flood.

The Jamuna river is flowing 140 centimeters above the danger mark in Sirajganj point.

More than three hundred villages of 44 unions of Sirajganj Sadar, Kazipur, Ullapara, Belkuchi, Chauhali and Shahjadpur upazilas have been flooded. More than 3,50,000 people have been marooned.

The situation of the remote areas is more vulnerable.

Syed Hasan Imam, executive engineer of Sirajganj Water Development Board, said that in 1988 the water flowed 117 centimeters above the danger mark. Now this year the water is flowing 23 centimeters more from that time.

Sirajganj Additional Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Kamrul Hasan said the UP chairmen had been ordered to take steps to protect the embankments. About 400 metric tonnes of rice and Tk 12 lakh have been allocated in six upazilas of the district.
