3 bodies found 4 days after boat capsized

Jhalakathi Correspondent: Three bodies which went missing after capsize of an engine-run boat in the River Shugandha have been recovered from different areas of the district.

 

Police recovered two bodies from College Kheya ghat area of the River Shugandha and another from village of Sundar in Manki area of the River Bishkhali on Tuesday morning.

 

The deceased were identified as Rajjak Mollick Raja, 32, a resident of village of Penabalia in Jhalakathi, Alam Jomaddar, 35, of the same village, and Taslim Hawlader, 50, a resident of the village of Deuri.

 

Jhalakathi Fire Service Station Acting Officer Golam Rasul said local people called police after discovering two bodies floating in the River Sugandha, and another in the River Bishkhali.

 

Police went to the spot and recovered the bodies, he said.

 

Abdul Halim Talukdar, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Jhalakathi police station, said the bodies were sent to Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital morgue after the relatives identified the bodies.

 

The bodies will be handed over to the relatives after the autopsy, he added.

 

On 6 January, the boat carrying 11 passengers was capsized in the River Shugandha near municipality boat terminal at about 7:30am.  The boat driver and eight passengers managed to swim ashore and three passengers were missing after the boat capsized.
