3 of a family die in boat capsize in Tangail

Staff Correspondent, Tangail: Three members of a family were killed as a boat capsized in the Konai river in Mirzapur upazila of the district.

The incident took place at village Dakkhin Kadma in Lotifur union of the upazila around 11:30pm on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Fulkhatun Begum, 47, wife of Chhanowar Mia, her son Anwar Hossain, 27 and Farida, 22, wife of Anwar Hossain.

Station Officer of Mirzapur Fire Service and Civil Defence Ataur Rahman said, the boat with 11 passengers on board sank in the river at around 11:30pm while it was going to village Dakkhin Kadma from village Ranashal of the upazila.

Three people drowned in the mishap while the rest managed to swim ashore, he said.

On information, fire fighting members rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies, he added.
