Staff Correspondent: The internet speed in Bangladesh will remain slow till January 20, according to Bangladesh Internet Service Provider Association.

Imdadul Haque, general secretary of the association, confirmed this to risingbd on Thursday.

He said, "Internet users in Bangladesh are experiencing slow internet services as three fiber optics--O2O submarine telecommunication cable, Tata Indicom Cable (TIC),  and I-ME-WE (India-Middle East-Western Europe), have been ineffective."

"India is connected with Singapore through O2O submarine telecommunication cable owned by Airtel India. The cable has been ineffective since December 13, 2016 as it was cut off almost 40 kilometers far away from the sea bank of Chennai," he added.

Besides, Tata Indicom Cable (TIC) connected India and Singapore was also defunct since January 1, according to the association.

I-ME-WE (India-Middle East-Western Europe), the submarine communications cable system between India and France, has also been ineffective that caused slow internet speed in Bangladesh, Imdadul Haque said.

He said the I-ME-WE cable is expected to be effective this week while the other two will be connected within January 20.
