33% Banknote damages due to negligence

Staff Correspondent: Paper currency (banknote) is one of the most valuable things in our life. The name of our banknote is Taka.

Central bank or Bangladesh Bank took several steps to keep save the notes. But, unfortunately some people of the country are not aware of the use of Taka. The government faces a huge loss to keep the notes usable.

The currency notes damages due to lots of reason including fire, lack of awareness or other reasons. Finally the central bank destroys these dirty, torn or useless notes and again the authorities print these notes for people.

A paper note isn't actually made of paper; it's 75% cotton and 25% linen and can withstand about 4,000 double folds before it tears.

Bangladesh Bank and the Security Printing Corporation sources said that about 30 to 33 percent bank notes damage due to negligence. The huge lose can be reduced if the note users use their currency notes carefully.

Following the issue, The Security Printing Corporation Limited Managing Director (MD) Ziauddin Ahmed told risingbd.com, “We only use pin in Tk 1000 notes to bundle. There is no use of pins in other notes. Bangladesh Bank also issued a direction in this regard.”

“Currency notes are valuable and important in our economy. The qualities of our notes are much better than some other countries. But the users are not aware here,” he said.
