4 killed in Germany train crash

Risingbd Desk: Police say at least four people have been killed and more than 100 have been injured in an early-morning train crash in southern Germany.


The two trains collided near the town of Bad Aibling, in Bavaria, around 7am local time on Tuesday.


A spokeswoman for police in Upper Bavaria confirmed to German news agency DPA that several people had died.


A reliable source said the trains had collided head on and it was expected that the number of deaths could climb.


"Obviously German emergency services are scrambling resources right at this moment," it said.


Police said of the injured located so far, at least 15 people were critically injured and 40 had severe injuries.


The DPA news agency reported that one train derailed after the collision and several carriages overturned.


Police spokesman Stefan Sonntag told the media that the scene of the accident on the tracks between Rosenheim and Holzkirchen was so confusing that he did not have any specific numbers of injured and dead yet.


"This is the biggest accident we have had in years in this region and we have many emergency doctors, ambulances and helicopters on the scene," Sonntag said.
