4 of engineer`s family die in suicide pact hours after his death

Risingbd Desk: Four family members of a Housing Board engineer Satyanarayana ended their lives by jumping before a running train at Ghatkesar on Hyderabad outskirts hours after his sudden death, police said on Saturday.

A divisional engineer with the HB, Satyanarayana aged about 55 years used to live at Janagaon of Warangal district with his wife Meerabai, daughters Swathi, 31, Neelima, 29, and son Shivaramakrishna, 22. They started for Hyderabad in a car on Friday night.

En route, they stopped at Vivera hotel near Bhongir and had dinner around 9.40 p.m. "It seems sometime later Satyanarayana suddenly fell sick. They rushed him to nearby hospital," Ghatkesar Inspector Prakash said on Saturday.

Around 10.30 p.m., doctors pronounced him dead. "Apparently, the family was shocked. They drove to a secluded place near HPCL go-down in Aushapur of Ghatkesar."

"Visuals of surveillance cameras showed that they crossed the toll gate at Bhongir around 11.51 p.m. Leaving the body inside the car parked at the isolated place, they walked upto the railway track and committed suicide," Mr. Prakash said.

Both his daughters had completed M.Tech. courses. His son was an engineering graduate. Due to departmental issues, Satyanarayana was under suspension for nearly five years.

Two years ago, he was reinstated. "His two daughters were unmarried. It seems their mother wanted marriage alliances of only government employees for the daughters. We were told that they were living aloof from close relatives and rarely socialised," the Inspector said.
