6 Shibir men arrested with hand-bombs

Staff Correspondent: Police arrested six members of Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, from a flat of capital`s Arambag area under Motijheel Police Station on Friday.

Police also recovered 11 home-made hand-bombs and huge number of Jihadi books from the flat.

The arrestees were sent to court after showing them arrested in a case on Saturday morning, confirmed Mafizur Rahman, SI of Motijheel Police Station.

The SI said, on tipped-off, police members conducted a drive at the third floor of 85, Arambag on Friday afternoon and held members of Shibir and recovered 11 hand-bombs and huge number of Jihadi books from their possessions.

The arrestees include president of Matijheel Thana Shibir, president of Paltan Thana Shibir, president of Ward No. 8 in the capital, president of Mugda Thana Shibir and a secretary of treasury.

They might have been gathered there for planning to carry out any subversive activities, said police.
