A historic win

Australia need 21 runs and Bangladesh need one wicket to win the Test match. There were jubilant scenes of celebration when Taijul Islam claimed the final wicket to seal a nail-biting victory and make a history.  Bangladesh beat Australia, cricket's strongest nation, by 20 runs in an absorbing first Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

Bangladesh have claimed their first-ever Test win over Australia and one of the most memorable in their cricket history. This game will be remembered for a virtuoso performance by Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh's finest ever cricketer. In his 50th Test but his first against Australia, Shakib Al Hasan confirmed his status as the game's leading allrounder with one of the finest individual efforts the game has seen, finishing with match figures of 10-153 to add to his first-innings knock of 84. To make his 50th Test memorable, Shakib Al Hasan captured 10 wickets in this Test with his back-to-back five wickets haul in two innings conceding 153 runs in 53.5 overs.

On the fourth day, it seemed that Bangladesh was losing the match. Warner was smashing Taizul-Miraz in aggressive batting. Shakib brought Bangladesh back to the match when he took the wicket of Warner. Shakib trapped lbw David Warner at 158/3 in 41.5 overs. Shakib confirmed the 4th day's first breakthrough departing aggressive batsman skipper Steve Smith who was caught behind by skipper Mushfiqur Rahim after scoring 37 off 99 balls, including three boundaries. After loss of Smith, Australia fell into trouble.

After Shakib, another hero of the match was Tamim Iqbal who played his 50 matches. Tamim Iqbal scored 71 and 78 runs respectively in the two innings.

Inspired by their senior's world class performance, Taijul Islam and Mehedi Hasan Miraz, returned to their wicket-taking ways. Spinner Taijul Islam captured three wickets for 60 runs in 19.5 overs in the 2nd innings. Another spinner Mehedi Hasan Miraz who made the first breakthrough for the Tigers for the three successive days' in the match, bagged two wickets for 80 runs in 19 overs in the 2nd innings.

It's just the 10th time in 101 matches Bangladesh have been on the winning side of a Test. Earlier, Bangladesh beat Zimbabwe five times and West Indies twice, Sri Lanka and England once in a row. Bangladesh team made a historic victory in Mirpur. It is our hope that the Tigers will continue to beat cricket super powers. The milestones will continue for Bangladesh in future and cricket will take themselves to the unique height in the world.
