Abid Sultan’s wife dies

Staff Correspondent: Afsana Khanam, the widow of US-Bangla pilot Abid Sultan, has died.

She died around 9.30am on Friday while she was undergoing treatment at National Institute of Neuroscience and Hospital in the city.

Prof Badrul Alam, a joint director of the hospital, confirmed the matter.

He said Afsana died of heart attack in the morning.

Earlier the hospital sources said her condition remained unchanged and critical.

On Sunday, Afsana was hospitalised after suffering a stroke and underwent a surgery. She was put on life support the next day in a stage internally known as precoma.

A former Bangladesh Air Force officer, Abid was the pilot of the US-Bangla Airlines plane that crashed in Kathmandu on March 12. He was killed along with 49 others in the worst aviation disaster in Bangladesh’s history.
