Bangladesh thrash New Zealand by 5 wickets

Sports Desk: Bangladesh thrashed New Zealand by five wickets in their final and last match of group 'A' in the ICC Champions Trophy-2017 at Sophia Gardens of Cardiff in England today.

All rounder Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah both scored brilliant hundreds after Tim Southee’s three early strikes. Shakib scored 114 that had 11 fours and one maximum while Mahmudullah scored an unbeaten 102 dotted with eight fours and two sixes.

Earlier, the Black Caps made 265/8 in their stipulated 50 overs. New Zealand’s Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor scored fifties.

In reply, the Tigers chased the target sensibly scoring 268 runs losing only five wickets.   

Bangladesh's Mosaddek Hossain Saikat took three wickets off 13 runs in three overs while Taskin Ahmed two wickets off 43 runs in 8 overs.

Besides, Mustafizur Rahman and Rubel Hossain took a wicket each.

Shakib Al Hasan have won ‘Player of the match’ award for his outstanding performance. 

All of Bangladesh will now back England to beat Australia or pray for a washout in Edgbaston for Bangladesh to reach the Champions Trophy semi-finals in their return to the tournament after 11 years.
