Bangladesh to take part in Setouchi Art festival in Japan

DHAKA, July 10: Bangladesh will participate in the Setouchi International Art Triennale-2013 to be held at Takamatsu in Japan from July 20 to September 1.

A total of 39 craftsmen, 12 painters with their works, 48 singers and dances and three eminent personalities will join the art triennale also known as the Setouchi International Art Festival.

This was told at a discussion held today at the Cultural Affairs ministry`s conference room with Cultural Affairs Minister Abul Kalam Azad in the chair.

International Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr Gowher Rizvi, Cultural Affairs Secretary Dr Ranjit Biswas and Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Shiro Sadoshima were present on the occasion.

Speaking at the function, the cultural affairs minister said Bangladesh`s participation at the international festival in Japan is significant to brighten the country`s image abroad through cultural exchange programmes.

Describing Japan as the trusted friend of Bangladesh, he said Bangladesh`s participation in the festival would further enhance the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.

The Cultural Affairs Minister Abul Kalam Azad will join the inaugural ceremony of the art extravaganza as the chief guest on July 20 in Takamatsu, Japan while Textiles and Jute Minister Abdul Latif Siddique will join the closing ceremony on September 1 as the chief guest.
