Bodies of woman, her son surfaced 4 days into boat capsize

The bodies of a woman and her son have surfaced in the Sarafvata river in Rangunia upazila of Chattogram four days after a boat sank in the Karnaphuli River in Chandraghona area here in Kaptai upazila.

The deceased were identified as Tumpa Majumder and her son Bijoy Majumder.

Locals found the bodies floating in the river on Tuesday morning and informed police about the incident. Police later rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies, said Saiful Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rangunia Police Station.

The bodies of the woman and her son were brought to the police station and a process to hand over the bodies to their family is underway, he said.

Three people went missing after an engine boat capsized in Kaptai Lake with 53 tourists on Friday (February 14). The body of Deblina Dey, 10, was recovered that day but Tumpa and Bijoy remained missing, he added.
