Compensation to Rajib's family: SC stays HC order

Staff Correspondent: The Supreme Court stayed the High Court order that directed the authority concerned to provide Tk one crore as compensation to the family of deceased Titumir College student Rajib Hasan.

A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order on Tuesday morning.

The court also directed the High Court to form an independent committee to fix the amount of compensation for the family. The committee has to submit the report within June 31.

Lawyer Abdul Matin Khasru moved for the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation while Barrister Ruhul Kuddus Kajal stood for the Rajib's family during the hearing in the case.

Earlier on May 21, the Appellate Division of Supreme Court fixed Tuesday (May 22) for delivering its verdict over the compensation to the family of Rajib Hasan.

On May 8, An HC bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice AKM Jahirul Haque ordered the owners of BRTC and Sajan Paribahan to pay Tk one crore to two brothers of Rajib. Later, BRTC submitted a petition to the concerned branch of Appellate Division to stay the order.

On April 3, Rajib Hossain, a third-year student of Government Titumir College, lost his right hand after it got stuck between two speeding buses trying to overtake each other in the capital's Bangla Motor area.
