Covid-19: Bangladesh-New Zealand Test series postponed

Due to the situation triggered by coronavirus or Covid-19 in the country, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has postponed the upcoming Test series against New Zeland which was scheduled to take place in August-September this year.

The BCB confirmed the matter in a press release issued on Tuesday (June 23.

The decision was taken after a joint discussion with the New Zealand Cricket, said the BCB press release.

New Zealand were scheduled to visit Bangladesh to play two Tests which are the part of World Test Championship (WTC).

After holding a mutual discussion on the issue, New Zealand Cricket Board (NZC) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will take a decision to arrange the series at their convenient time later, the release said.

In the press release, BCB CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury Sujon said, “In the present Covid-19 pandemic scenario, hosting a full cricket series in August 2020 will be a challenge in terms of preparations and we cannot arrange the series for the safety risk of players, support staff and related stakeholders involved in the series."

“Under these circumstances, the BCB and NZC have felt that the best way forward would be to defer the series. We realise that this will be hugely disappointing for the players and officials of both teams, not to mention the fans of the two nations but I must thank NZC for its understanding and for recognising the rationale behind such a decision,” he added.
