Dead whale washes up on beach in Cox's Bazar

A six-foot sized dead whale washed up on Gholarchar point of Shahporir Island in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Monday (June 22).

Locals noticed the dead animal around 11:00am.

Jasim Mahmud, a dweller of the Island said, kids have found the whale first and informed others. It is still lying in the sea beach.

Checking the footage and pictures of today’s whale, Chattogram marine science institute professor Saidur Rahman said, “It’s not a baby whale. It would be a middle-age whale. There are eight species of whale in Bangladesh. It’s tough to say about its genre without proper inspection.”

Earlier on June 20, a rare species of whale was found in Poschimpara sea beach. After getting injuries that whale got stuck in the beach. Later, locals helped the marine mammal to go back to sea. That was a Bryde's whale.
