Drug dealer killed in Dhaka 'gunfight'

Staff Correspondent: An accused drug dealer was killed in a gunfight between his cohorts and police in Dakshinkhan of the capital early Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Sumon alias Khuku Sumon.

Sources said that the incident took place around 12:15am. Meanwhile, two policemen were also injured during the gunfight.

Dakshinkhan police station Officer-in-Charge Tapan Chandra Saha told risingbd.com that police went to the area to detain a drug trader. But, a group of drug trader opened fire aiming police. In reply, police also opened fire which triggered the gunfight. At one stage, the criminals fled the scene. Later, the bullet-hit body of Sumon found the spot.

1,000 pieces of Yaba tablets, a one-shooter gun, pistol and four cocktails were recovered from the spot.

Sumon was wanted in five drug cases, the OC added.
