Drug peddler killed in Sirajganj ‘gunfight’

Sirajganj Correspondent: A drug peddler named Jahangir Hossain, 32, was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in the district early Saturday.

The gunfight took place around 3.00am at Mahmudpur field in Sirajganj municipality area. Three policemen were also injured in the incident.

The deceased was the son of late Hatem Ali of Railway Colony Purbapara area.

Mahmud Daud, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station, said acting on information that a gang of drug traders gathered in the area and a team of police conducted a drive there.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the OC claimed, the gangsters opened fire on them which forced the police to fire back in self-defence. Police rescued bullet-hit Jahangir Hossain from the spot and he was immediately taken to a hospital where the duty doctors declared him dead.He was wanted in seven drug-related cases, the OC added.
