‘Drug trader’ drowns in Rajshahi

Staff Correspondent, Rajshahi: A suspected drug trader drowned in a river after he jumped into the water to escape police arrest in Padma River bank area in Rajshahi this morning.

The deceased was identified as Md Amin, 35, hailed from Upakantha Har-pur area of the district town. He was wanted in six cases including five drug cases.

Officer-in-Charge of Kashiadanga Police Station Mansur Ali Arif said, a police team went to Padma River bank area to recover drugs early Tuesday. Sensing their presence, drug peddlers opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.

Later, police recovered Amin’s body from the river, he said, adding that he might have drowned while fleeing. The body was kept at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue.

Meanwhile, locally made one shooter gun, two bullets and 79 bottles of Phensidyl syrup were recovered from the spot.
