Drug trader killed in Abhaynagar ‘gunfight’

Staff Correspondent, Jashore:  A drug trader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between two groups of drug traders in the district’s Abhaynagar upazila early Monday.

The gunfight took place in Chengutia area of Nawapara municipality.

The deceased was identified as Shahidul Islam, 38, son of Nur Islam at Bukara village under Abhaynagar upazila.

Police also recovered several arms, some bullets and Yaba tablets from the spot.

Officer-in-Charge of Abhaynagar Thana Sheikh Gani Mia said two groups of drug traders exchanged fire. Being informed a team of police went there and recovered a dead body. Later, police sent the body to Jashore General Hospital for autopsy.

The OC also said Shahidul Islam was a listed drug trader, and there were several cases against him.
