International Desk: A magnitude 4.4 earthquake has hit New Zealand's North Island, just days after massive tremors struck Papua New Guinea.
The quake hit at 12:51pm on Tuesday at a depth of 23kilometres, 35kilometres west of Ohakune.
Geonet received 1019 reports of tremors, most between New Plymouth and Levin.
Papua New Guinea was struck by a powerful 6.7 magnitude quake last week, followed by tremors measuring 5.0 and 5.1.
