Engineers turn militants

Detectives arrested two militants in connection with the attacks on police in Gulistan and Science Lab areas in the capital.

The two engineering students had recently completed their engineering from Khulna Engineering University and joined banned militant organization Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh.

Additional Commissioner Monirul Islam of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) came up with the announcement while addressing a press conference at DMP media center on Monday.

The two militants Mehedi Hasan Tamim and Md Abdullah Azmir were arrested from capital’s Mohammadpur on Sunday night. Meanwhile, a laptop and three mobile phones were seized form their possession.

Detectives said, the duo are member of neo-JMB’s military wing. They took graduation degree from Khulna University of Engineering & Technology. Basically, they got involve with the banned organization while studying in the university.

In 2018, the militants got training in a remote Char of Bhola district. Later, they formed a military wing under the leadership of Jamal Uddin Rafik on September 23, 2019. They also formed a bomb making factory in Rafik’s residence in Fatullah.

During the primary interrogation, the arrestees confessed about their involvement with bomb attacks in Gulisthan on April 29 and Science Lab on August 31.
