Flood-hit people face food crisis in Kurigram

Kurigram Correspondent: Flood-hit people in the district are facing food crisis.

The flood situation in Kurigram district has remained unchanged.

The water of Brahmaputra River is flowing 67 centimetres above the danger level and Dharla 56 centimetres above the danger level.

About four lakh people of 820 villages of nine upazilas have been marooned. Flood-hit people have taken shelter in rural roads, highways and educational institutions with their livestock.

The government and private relief distribution started but it was less than necessary.

Meanwhile, 13 people died in flood in last five days. Most of them are children. The flood has washed away fish of 8 thousand ponds worth Tk 12 crore.

Deputy Commissioner of Kurigram Abu Saleh Mohammad Ferdous Khan said for the flood victims, Tk 17 lakh and five thousand, 651 tonnes of rice and 2000 packets foods have been allocated.
