HC orders to stop antibiotics production of 28 companies

Staff Correspondent: The High Court has ordered 28 pharmaceutical companies to stop production and marketing of antibiotics, penicillin and cancer drugs within next 72 hours.

The HC bench of Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice Md Ataur Rahman Khan passed the order on Monday.

Advocate Manzil Murshid stood for the writ petition filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh.

The court also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned of the government to explain in four weeks why their inaction to stop production and marketing of those drugs should not be declared illegal.

Secretaries to the ministries of health and industry, chiefs of the health directorate and consumer rights protection directorate, president of Bangladesh Association of Pharmaceutical Industries, director general of Rapid Action Battalion and the inspector general of police have been ordered to submit report.

The 28 companies are - Amico Pharma, Aztec Pharmaceuticals, Bengal Techno Pharma Ltd, Benham Pharmaceuticals, Central Pharmaceuticals, Descent Pharma, Dr. Tims Pharmaceuticals, Globex Pharmaceuticals, Greenland Pharmaceuticals, Inova Pharmaceuticals, Max Drugs Ltd, Medi Mate Laboratories, Modern Pharmaceuticals, Mystic Pharmaceuticals, National Laboratories, Organic Health Care Ltd, Wester Pharma, Premier Pharmaceuticals, Prime Pharmaceuticals, Seema Pharmaceuticals, White Horse Pharmaceuticals, Momtaz Pharmaceuticals, Unique Pharmaceuticals, United Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals, FNF Pharmaceuticals, Techo Drugs Ltd's Units 1,2 and 3.
