House owner held over Rampura deaths

Staff Correspondent: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested the owner of the collapsed house in Rampura over the deaths of 12 people in the tragic incident.

Moniruzzaman Chowdhury, 38, was arrested from a house in Tiprabazar area of Comilla`s Nishchintapur around 5:00am on Monday.

RAB 3 Commanding Officer Lt Col Golam Sarwar briefed the reporters at Tikatuli headquarters in the afternoon.

"Moniruzzaman built the house on the illegally occupied land," said the RAB official.

On Apr 15, a tin-shed shack, constructed on a lake, caved in killing 12 people.

The tin-hut stood on bamboo poles at the side of a hyacinth-filled lake at Hajiparha’s Jheelpar.
