Int'l Human Rights Day: President, PM issue messages

Staff Correspondent: International Human Rights Day will be celebrated on Sunday across the globe. President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on the occasion of the Day.

In the message, President Abdul Hamid said that Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December – the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

"The incumbent government is committed to protect human rights. National Human Rights Commission Act, 2009 and National Human Rights Commission have been formed already," the message reads.

The President also said Bangladesh established a unique example in human right providing shelter to Rohingya people.

Bangladesh Human Rights Foundation will organize a rally at 9:00am on the day from Central Shaheed Minar to Jatiya Press Club. Dhaka University Vice-chancellor Professor ASM Arefin Siddiq will attend it as the chief guest.
