Jamuna water level rises, 1,59,000 people marooned in Sirajganj

The flood situation may worsen in Sirajganj as Jamuna has continued to swell.

Water level has increased four cm in Sirajganj point and three cm in Kazipur point.

On Friday morning, Jamuna was as flowing 46cm above its danger mark (DM) at Sirajganj point and 64 cm above its danger mark (DM) in Kazipur point, said a bulletin of the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center (FFWC).

According to sources, flood water has affected over 1.59 lakh people in 216 villages under five upazilas of the district.

Flood has caused damage to roads and houses and river erosion. It has also damaged crops of 3565 hectors of land.

Many people took shelters in flood shelters and high lands in the district.
