Khaleda Zia in court

Staff Correspondent: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has appeared before a Dhaka court in the Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases.

She reached at the special court set up at Dhaka’s Bakshibazar at 11:00am on Wednesday.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lodged the Zia Charitable Trust graft case against Khaleda and four others with Tejgaon police station on August 8, 2011, over the alleged embezzlement of Tk3.15 crore from the trust.

Later, the watchdog submitted charge sheet against the accused on August 5, 2009.

On July 3, 2008, the ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case with Ramna Police Station for allegedly misusing Tk2.1 crore from the funds of the Zia Orphanage Trust. 

On August 5, 2009, the ACC submitted charge-sheet against eight people, including Khaleda and her son Tarique, Former MP Salimul Haque Kamal alias Econo Kamal, businessman Sharfuddin Ahmed.
