Kohli dedicates Mumbai T20I knock to Anushka

India captain Virat Kohli on Wednesday said it felt special to have hit a series-sealing 70 against West Indies on the occasion of his 2nd wedding anniversary with Anushka Sharma.

Virat Kohli was under considerable pressure as India were struggling to defend totals in T20I cricket. In the crunch T20I series decider in Mumbai, India were asked to bat first by West Indies.

However, India responded to criticism in style by smashing 240 -- their 3rd highest score in T20I cricket and boxing West Indies out of the contest at the Wankhede Stadium.

After openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul put on 135 runs in little over 11 overs, Virat Kohli joined the party and played one of his 'best innings in T20I cricket'. Kohli smashed 70 at a strike rate of 241.38 as he hit 4 boundaries and 7 sixes.

Kohli remained unbeaten on 70 after he finished off the Indian innings in style with a massive six. Even as he made his way back to the dressing room, Kohli was seen blowing flying kisses to Anushka Sharma who had apparently watched the proceedings from the Wankhede stands on their 2nd wedding anniversary.

"It was a pretty special innings and also being our second wedding anniversary, it was a special gift. It was a special night and one of the best innings I have played. And batting first we won, feels really good," Virat Kohli said.

Notably, Kohli tied the knot with Bollywood actor Anushka at a private ceremony in Italy on December 11, 2017.

Meanwhile, Kohli also said he is delighted at the way India overcame their woes with setting totals in T20I cricket. Before Wednesday, 5 of India's 7 loses in T20I cricket in 2019 came when they batted first.

In Mumbai, Rohit Sharma came up with a refreshing approach as he went after the West Indies bowlers from the word go. Between Rohit, Kohli and Rahul, 16 sixes and 19 boundaries were hit on Wednesday.

"I think two guys in the middle with clarity and the way Rahul and Rohit played today was the key today. Batting first, we have been too tight and hesitant, but this pitch allowed us to play freely. It was a good lesson for us and now we need to remember it," Kohli said.
