Libya killings: 3 human traffickers sued in Gopalganj

A case was filed against three human traffickers in Gopalganj on Monday in connection with the killing of 26 Bangladeshis in Libya.

Kabul Mridha, father of Sujan Mridha who was killed in the shooting in Libya, lodged the case with Muksudpur Police Station, said its officer-in-charge Abul Kalam Azad.

Three accused human traffickers are Liaqat Sheikh alias Leku Sheikh, 45, Rab Moral, 45, residents in Muksudpur upazila; and Julhas Sarder, of Rajoir upazila in Madaripur.

According to the case statement, deceased Sujan Mridha and Omar Sheikh paid Tk 8 lakh and Tk 4 lakh respectively to Kamrul Sheikh on January 1 this year on condition to send them to Libya for jobs.

Later, Rab Moral sent an amount of deal money to two others traffickers.

The human traffickers sent them to Libya via India, Dubai, Kuwait and Egypt. They also took Tk 5.4 lakh from the duo on February 11.

Sujan and Omar were taken to Mizda area and being confined there for one month after their arrival in Benghazi. The trafficking syndicate demanded Tk 30 lakh as ransom and tortured them for the money.

Some human traffickers killed 30 migrant workers, including 26 Bangladeshi nationals, in Libya on Thursday. The tragedy occurred in a smuggling warehouse in Mizda, near the city of Gharyan, southwest of Tripoli.
