Man held over killing wife in Noakhali

Noakhali Correspondent: Police found a woman dead in an abandoned house behind Porkora Government Primary School of the district's Sonaimuri upazila on Monday night.

The deceased was identified as Pinki Akter Popy, 18, daughter of late Sirajul Islam of Jahanabad village of the upazila.

Police held Jakir Hossain, 21, husband of the deceased Popy. He is son of Dulal Hossain of Porkara village.

Yousuf, brother of Popy, alleged that she got married Jakir before six months. After a few days of their marriage, they locked into dispute as she came to know that Jakir tied the knot twice earlier.

As a sequel to that, Jakir called Popy over mobile phone and took her the abandoned house. There, he hacked Popy to kill. Hearing the hue and cry, locals rushed the scene and detained Jakir, he added.

Ismail Miya, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sonaimuri Police Station, confirmed the news.
