NCC polls and our expectation

Mostafijur Rahman Nasim: Every election in the country always brings a festive mood in the electoral area. Aspirants and voters pass a joyous time during polls.

Locals face their desired leaders during the election campaign and the candidates also roam in the door to doors seeking their expected votes from voters. Both ruling party and opposition party men fought to win the polls which increase the value of voters.

However, most of the time the countrymen face untoward situations during voting in poll areas. There are lots of unpleasant experiences in the country.

Following the matter, the law enforcers always remain alert but sometime could not avoid the violence.

Again polls knocking at the door to people. The people of Narayanganj are going to face the Naryanganj City Corporation (NCC) polls this time.

General people are thinking that the feud between the two influential Awami League leaders have made the voters out of open discussion regarding the polls.

Besides, some people have claimed that the bitter experience of other city corporation polls during this Awami League regime has made apathy in Narayanganj voters to create a hype before the election. Common voters are even anxious about whether they can go the polling stations safely in the election.

Moreover, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed visited Narayanganj on December 15 in a bid to hold a free and fair election. He exchanged his views with the election candidates in Narayanganj club. At that time, he assured them of a free and fair election.

Besides, BNP-backed mayoral candidate Shakhawat Hossain Khan is contesting the election as the key opponent against Selina Hayat Ivy. Shakhawat Hossain stressed for the army deployment in the election, expressing doubt about a free, fair and neutral election. He also alleged that equal chances and opportunities have not ensured for all candidates in the election.

On the other hand, the ruling party said that the incumbent government or Awami League will not interfere in the polls.

Every election brought a chance to judge the popularity of each political party or the candidates where voters play the main role.

The upcoming polls in Narayanganj City have brought a chance for two major political parties to justify their popularity in the existing political situation of the country.

Very peaceful atmosphere is prevailing in Narayanganj on the eve of city corporation polls. People of Narayanganj city will vote by their choices.  

We general people also expect that the Narayanganj people will successfully choose their lovable candidates for the next tenure.
