Onion prices rise again

People of Pabna had a sigh of relief as onion prices came down after new onions arrived in in local market.

But prices of onion started to gear up again since Friday, leaving consumers in sufferings again.

They alleged that traders are increasing onion prices whimsically due to lack of administrative surveillance.

Onions are being sold per kg at Tk 170 to 180 which was Tk 90 to 100 just before two days. Traders are charging Tk 80 much suddenly, making people outraged.

Amzad Hossain, who came to Pabna Boro Bazar to buy onions, on Saturday noon said I bought onions at Tk 90 per kg in last week. Today it is being sold at Tk 170.

Another consumer Sazzad Hossain alleged that a group of traders increasing prices through syndicate as there is no surveillance by the government. Just people have been sufferings.

Abdus Salam and Abul Kashem, both are agents of the market, said there is no syndicate in the market. Farmers harvested their new onions earlier before the period because of price hike. But there are currently no gatherings of new onions in the market. So, prices geared up for insufficient supply.
