PM flies to Sweden Tuesday

Desk Report: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will leave Dhaka for Sweden on Tuesday on a three-day bilateral visit at the invitation of her Swedish counterpart Stefan L”fven.

This will be the first ever bilateral visit by any head of government or state of Bangladesh to Sweden.

During the visit, a joint communiqu‚ is expected to be signed between Bangladesh and Sweden on fixing future work plan of bilateral relations between the two countries, said Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali on Sunday.

Addressing a press briefing, he said a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is likely to be signed between Sweden-Bangladesh Business Council (SBBC, Stockholm) and Nordic Chamber of Commerce and Industries (NCCI, Dhaka) for further expanding bilateral trade cooperation.

"The visit would help expanding the areas of bilateral trade, achieving Sustainable Development Goal (Agenda 2030) between Bangladesh and Sweden and cooperation in the areas of migration, climate change and global terrorism," Mahmood Ali said.

The Prime Minister's Sweden visit would brighten Bangladesh's image in the global arena including in the Europe, he added.

During the visit, the Bangladesh Premier will hold one-to-one meeting with her Swedish counterpart Stefan L”fven and pay a courtesy call on the king of Sweden.

Besides, the deputy prime minister, acting speaker, judiciary and migration ministers of Sweden will call on Sheikh Hasina separately.

Apart from this, chief executives of different Swedish companies and business houses will also call on Hasina during her visit.

The Prime Minister will join the Bangladesh-Sweden Business and Investment Forum.

The Bangladesh PM will lead a high-power delegation including a 47- member high-level business delegation during the visit.

The Prime Minister after concluding her three-day bilateral visit to Sweden will leave Stockholm for Dhaka on June 16.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam and Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque, among others, were present at the press briefing held at the ministry of foreign affairs.
