PM announces cash, cars, flats for Tigers

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina greets Bangladesh Cricket Team captain (ODI & T20i) Mashrafe Mortaza at her official residence Ganabhban

Sport Correspondent: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced various rewards for Bangladesh Cricket Team including cash money, cars and flats for their outstanding performance in the 2015 World Cup and in the ODI and T20 series against touring Pakistan.

The premier made the announcement at a reception she accorded to the Bangladesh cricket team at her official residence Ganabhban on Saturday noon.

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minster said a total of Tk. 8.30 crore will be given to the Tigers. Among them, Tk. 1 crore came as the ‘wining bonus’ in the World Cup, Tk. 3 crore from International Cricket Council, Tk. 1 crore, 30 lakh from Bangladesh Cricket Board, Tk. 2 crore (1 crore each for World Cup performance and against Pakistan) from the government and Tk. 1 crore from Beximco.

The PM also announced to provide a car for each player who does not have had any such reward from the government by the time and provide accommodation for all of them.

 


After the construction of the Padma Bridge, Hasina said, the government has a plan to construct an Olympic Village on the other side of the bridge where there will be a modern cricket stadium, too.


Bangladesh qualified for the quarterfinals in the Cricket World Cup 2015 for the first time in the World Cup history, earning appreciations from all quarters.


Besides, Bangladesh clinched the one day international (ODI) series defeating touring Pakistan cricket team by 3-0. ‘Banglawash’ is referred to a whitewash in cricket by Bangladeshis.
