Pirate leader killed in Sundarbans joint operation

Staff Correspondent, Khulna: A pirate leader was killed in a joint operation conducted by RAB and Police at Hodda canal adjacent to the Sundarbans of the district's Paikgachha upazila on Saturday noon.

The deceased was identified as Robiul Islam, ring leader of Rabiul group, confirmed RAB-6 of Khulna.

Law enforcers also recovered a foreign made one-pipe gun, a .22 bore air gun, a foreign made pipe gun and 27 rounds of bullets of short gun, 15rounds of bullets of .22 bore rifles, five bullet shells and a machete from the spot, RAB claimed.

Lt. AMM Zahidul Kabir of Khulna RAB-6 said robbers of pirate Rabiul group were taking preparation to commit robbery at Hodda canal area. Being informed, RAB members conducted drive there. Sensing the presence of law enfocers, robbers started to fire at them that prompted to retaliated and triggered a gun battle, leaving Rabiul killed.

The body was sent to Khulna Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy. He was accused in several case, he added.
