Staff Correspondent, Chittagong: Former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee has arrived in Chittagong to attend a number of programs.
He reached Chittagong around 11:30am. He is scheduled to receive a Doctor of Letters (D. Litt) degree from Chittagong University this noon through a special convocation ceremony.
Pranab Mukherjee will visit the ancestral home of Masterda Surya Sen, an influential leader of Indian independence movement against British rule, at village Noapara under Raozan upazila in Chittagong to pay homage to Surya Sen.
Chittagong University assistant proctor Liton Mitra told risingbd.com that Pranab Mukherjee arrived here around 11:30am and now he is staying now at Chittagong Radisson Blu.
Pranab Mukherjee arrived Dhaka on Sunday on a four-day private visit.
Centering his visit, additional security measures have been taken in Chittagong.
Rezaul Masud, additional superintendent (sadar) of Chittagong police, said, around 1,300 police forces will be deployed in various points from Chittagong to Rauzan.
