Prove allegations or resign: Fakhrul

Senior Correspondent: Terming Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's allegations of illegal properties of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia abroad as ‘propaganda’, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir asked the government to prove the allegation.

The BNP leader has also sought resignation of the government if it fails to prove the allegation.

Fakhrul came up with these comments while distributing winter clothes among the poor at the High Court mazar area in the capital on Monday.

The distribution was organised by Dhaka BNP (South) to mark the birthday of BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman.

“The government is spreading propaganda against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in name of corruption to confuse general people. You (Hasina) prove the allegation or resign. If you fail to prove, we will take legal action,” Fakhrul told reporters.

The BNP leader emphatically stated that there is no existence of any such assets of the former prime minister, Khaleda Zia, or her family members anywhere in the world.

“We've looked into the matter and there is no existence of such properties. The allegations are false and fabricated,” said Mirza Fakhrul.
