Rape case accused killed in Satkhira gunfight

Satkhira Correspondent: The main accused in a case filed for raping a minor girl was killed in a gunfight with police in Hizaldi village under Kalaroa upazila of the district early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Sohag Sardar, 26, son of Samsur Sardar.

Kalaroa police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Biplab Kumar Nath said that a case was filed on charge of a nine-years-old girl rape on Saturday afternoon. Following the case, police conducted a drive in the area to catch the rapist. Meanwhile, the law enforcers challenged a youth but he opened fire aiming police which triggered the gunfight, leaving him critically injured.

Later, the injured was rushed to Kalaroa Upazila Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Two policemen were also injured during the gunfight, the OC said.

A one-shooter gun and a round of bullet were recovered from the spot.
