‘Rapists must be brought under law’

Vice-Chancellor of the Dhaka University Professor Dr. Akhtaruzzaman has urged the police to bring under the law those involved in the rape of the university student.

He made the call when he went to see the victim at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Monday. Earlier, the VC spoke to the student and her family members and inquired about them.

He said, “We are very sorry for this uncertain incident. Hospital and DU authorities are supporting her in all means.”

A second-year student of Dhaka University was allegedly raped and tortured in the capital’s Kurmitola area on Sunday night.

Her fellow students and several DU employees brought her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around midnight and got her admitted there.
