Re-excavation of Kumar River begins

Faridpur Correspondent: Re-excavation of the Kumar River has been started in Ambikapur of sadar upazila in the district.

Local Government, Rural Development and Co-Operatives Minister Engineer Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, MP formally opened the re-excavation task on Saturday afternoon.

The house of famous poet Polli Kobi Jasim Uddin is situated on the bank of Kumar River. The re-excavation started following the demand of all classes of people living in the district headquarters to bring back the natural flow of the dying river.

The authority has taken up the programme to re-excavate the river involving Tk 250.81 crore.

During the inauguration programme, LGRD Minister said the government took the huge project to bring back normal flow of Kumar River. The lifestyles of the people in this area will be changed after implementing the project. 

Deputy Commissioner of Faridpur Umme Salma Tanzia presided over the programme where NAVY commodore Sheikh Arif Mahmood, A.K.M. Wahed Uddin Chowdhury, Executive Engineer Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) and others attended.
