Road crashes kill 254 people during Eid journeys

Staff Correspondent: As many as 254 people were killed and 696 were injured in road accidents during the recent Eid-ul-Azha journeys throughout Bangladesh.

A passenger welfare organization Jatri Kalyan Samity (JKS) disclosed the information at a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters Unity on Wednesday morning.

At the press conference JKS claimed “a total of 254 people died and 696 suffered injuries in 214 road accidents between August 28 and September 9”.

However, the total death toll during the time was 322 in 272 accidents on roads, railways and waterways during the holidays, JSK said.

A road monitoring cell has prepared the statistics using reports from 22 national dailies, six regional dailies and 10 online news portals, JSK said at the media briefing.
