Rohingya crisis: UN chief Guterres phones Sheikh Hasina

Desk Report: UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres phoned Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to talk over Rohingya issue.

The UN chief made the phone call at around 09:30pm Saturday.

PM's press secretary Ihsanul Karim said, "The UN secretary general made the phone call to the PM at around 9:30pm and talked to her about 20 minutes on the Rohingya crisis," reports bdnews24.

He said that the prime minister also sought the UN secretary general's support for the implementation of her five-point proposal that she placed in the 72nd UN General Assembly.

"I've presented the five-point proposal for a sustainable solution to the problem," she told Guterres.

Sheikh Hasina thanked Guterres for his 'concern, compassion and support' for the Rohingyas, as well as his continued and 'strong' pro-active role in drawing the UN Security Council's attention and the world community.

The prime minister also informed him that the exodus of Rohingyas into Bangladesh was continuing.
