Bangladesh to send rice, water for Nepalese

Staff Correspondent:  Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday directed the authorities concerned to send a total of 10,000 metric tons of rice and adequate drinking water to Nepal to assist the devastating earthquake-hit people.

The Premier`s direction came in a press release signed by the Prime Minister`s Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri on the day.

"The aids will be sent to Nepal via both air and ground ways," the resale added.

Press release also stated, "Sheikh Hasina has asked the authorities concerned to send the aids on emergency basis."

The death toll from the deadly earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25, also known as Gorkha quake, has climbed to 7,365, according to the latest update by the Home Ministry.

According to the ministry sources, the highest number of the dead has been recorded in the Sindhupalchowk district which has soared to 2,838 while the toll has steadily rose to 1,202 in Kathmandu.
